Back to School 2005 Breakfast

The CEFPI Foundation & Charitable Trust, in collaboration with the Healthy Schools Network, hosted the first Back to School Breakfast on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, DC. An initial fund-raising event, the benefit breakfast introduced the Foundation to the private sector community. Proceeds from the Breakfast will be shared by the Foundation and the Healthy Schools Network to facilitate research that illustrates the impact of healthy, high performing school facilites on student achievement and community vitality.

Governor Parris N. Glendenning addressed the gathering. A longtime supporter of healthy communities, former Governor Glendening current serves as President of the Smart Growth Leadership Institute, a project of Smart Growth America. Smart growth America is a nationwide coalition promoting a better way to grow – one that protects open space, revitalizes neighborhoods and makes communities more liveable. Parris Glendening spent eight years as Governor of Maryland, where he made education and the environment, especially smart growth, his top priorities.
